and Disk# 1232
Want to create your own text adventure games? Now, with the ADVENTURE GAME TOOLKIT (AGT) you can, and you don't need to know programming!
In text adventures, players assume the roles of characters in a story which they read. But unlike a book story, the reader is able to interact with the plot, go different directions, ask questions and do things which may lead them to treasure or doom.
Using AGT, game enthusiasts can now transform their wildest fantasies into high-quality adventure games -- and teachers and parents, with a little imagination, now have a wonderful tool for making riveting games that can teach basic subjects, such as history, math, foreign langauges, vocabulary development, etc., in a fun and impactful way.
AGT can create complex worlds with up to 200 locations, 100 inanimate objects (swords, trees, cars, lasers, etc) and 100 animate objects (hobbits, orcs, famous persons, etc.). An AGT game can understand a 400-word vocabulary that can include complex (multiple actions) and function key macros for common commands for a polished result that conforms to the Infocom standard in adventure games so anyone can learn to play quickly.
AGT comes with complete instructions (100 page on-disk manual) and a sample mini-game that is walked through showing what can be created using AGT without requiring the game designer to have programming knowledge or experience. It also contains the source code files for the Colossal Cave adventure. This is an AGT version of the original game that was written by Crowther and Woods that was the first adventure game ever written. It is a classic! The AGT files for this game can be played and enjoyed simply as great entertainment or as a platform to build upon and/or learn from for the AGT game designer.

Alice In Wonderland
by Robin Johnson RUN
Download Disk# 1495
ALICE IN WONDERLAND is an adventure game based on Lewis Carroll's novel, Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. Although you need not be familiar with the novel to play, there are occasionally places it would be helpful.
In this narrative adventure, you type in dialogue and directions as you wander through Wonderland as Alice, gathering special objects and talking with the odd creatures and other characters from the novel.
You will discover that your size can change in this game. You start out your normal size and then may grow or shrink, depending on your actions. At times, you will have to be very small to accomplish certain tasks. But be aware that the larger you are, the better your chances of evading death. Also, when you are very large, there is no weight restriction on what you can carry. When you are tiny and you encounter a danger, your chances of survival are pretty slim.
Winning consists of finding a particular valuable object and returning home with it. Along the way, there are many adventures to be had and many places to see. You will need to explore everything. Suitable for ages 9 through adult.

Another Lifeless Planet and Me With No Beer
by Drew Software RUN
Download Disk# 2138
NOBEER is a logical adventure game. It's a big one, too, created with the Gamescape adventure game generation system. The response has been incredible. If you like adventure gaming, this is a must have! In NOBEER, the player is an astronaut stranded on a hostile alien planet (sound familiar? Players of Marooned Again will recognize the character immediately). The goal: find a way to get to an alien space ship and rig it to blast off to safety. That's easier said than done; as the astronaut you will face perils such as deadly slurpers, air squids, bladderbeasts and the terrible pun palm tree!
Unlike many adventure games, ANOTHER LIFELESS PLANET AND ME WITH NO BEER is completely logical. Everything in the game has a reason (well, maybe) and everything you do has a purpose (most of the time) and above all, everything is logical (well, to an alien, anyway). This game is funny too. Do you know what happens when you eat a frog? Or the only way to get past an alien monster? Have you ever tried to munch a slimeball? Do you know what it feels like when you try to pick up slime? What does a dead astronaut's head look like? You'll find all this out in ANOTHER LIFELESS PLANET AND ME WITH NO BEER.

DRAGON SWORD is a fantasy role game like Dungeons & Dragons, in which you may create your own characters and explore a maze of thirty levels.
The objective is to find the Dragon Sword and slay the dragon which dwells somewhere in the maze. The maze is shown three dimensionally on the screen to simulate real movement as you move down the hallways and through the doors.
You can create a party from one to six characters. Each character can have his own class, weapons, spells and other abilities. New characters can always be created and saved to disk. Mapping is definitely required in order not to get lost. Your party will encounter many different types of monsters which must be fought in order to gain experience and treasure, although sometimes it is best to run away from powerful foes.
There are special areas in the maze in which you can be healed, buy and sell items, or encounter a puzzle or riddle. As you go deeper in the maze the monsters become harder to kill and the puzzles more difficult to solve. Registration allows you to obtain game hints from the author.

Marooned Again
by Drew Software RUN (Type QUIT to quit)

MAROONED AGAIN is not your standard text adventure. It's logical. It tells you this every time you try to do something illogical. The basic plot: You are marooned on an alien planet with a broken spaceship and a bunch of retarded clones who can only respond to two-word commands.
There is hope however! Also on this planet is an alien spaceship that can be made to work with some minor repairs. All you have to do is use the clones to fix the alien ship, and take off.
MAROONED AGAIN is lots of fun, and does not bear the irritating "irrational" nature found in so many adventure games. This game has been highly acclaimed by our users, so much so that it even has a sequel!

If you're in a gaming mood, here are four great entertainment programs in our library.
NEVADA POKER MACHINE is a simple-to-play, one-player poker game in which you may discard one to five unwanted cards of those dealt to you. The payoff odds are shown at the top right corner of the screen, and the winnings are shown at the bottom. If you've ever played a poker machine in Las Vegas or Atlantic City, NEVADA POKER MACHINE will be very familiar to you.
If poker is not your cup of tea, PRO LOTTO is designed to help you win lotteries ranging from a 6/15 through a 6/52 format. PRO LOTTO lets you store all the past numbers you have played and all past winning numbers.
When choosing a lottery number you can put in your own number or a number produced by random generation. With PRO LOTTO your computer can also generate a number based upon the past record of winning lottery numbers.
PRO LOTTO can also produce a graphic screen showing what numbers are chosen most often, and can find the twelve most popular numbers for both you and your state's numbers. The program will print out the numbers you have chosen and the winning numbers from previous games. PRO LOTTO can show the money you have spent on the lottery and the odds of winning, and can look for all the matches you have made with the lottery for both matching and non-matching dates.
For those more analytical in their entertainment pleasures, and for those for whom a text-adventure is more to their liking, MUTANT INVASION is for you. This game puts you inside a science-fiction adventure in the year 2000. You're within a dome that covers the city to protect it from the firesky at nighttime. You can no longer hear the screams of the Outsiders, but you know they are very near. The atmospheric radiation storms are slowly quieting. Although most of the oceanic disturbances have run their course, tidal waves, typhoons and minor hurricanes occasionally come to claim a few more lives.
You are one of the survivors from the last war. But no one really knows what happened since all the radios, televisions and telephones went silent when the sky began to burn. The Outsiders, as you can guess, are not human. Most people call them mutants. They have more or less become used to living outside the city dome, out in the Burn. But there's no food or water fit for consumption, even for them. That's why they're coming again now. A few of the mutants have found a way into the dome. Do you feel ready to stop them? You must find their secret entrance and seal it off.
If you're more of a mystery fan than a sci-fi fan, the second adventure game is for you. INTERCEPT starts with you on the street in front of a car and a phone booth. If you look closely at your possessions, you see you have an ID card (not for buying alcohol) and a watch. Now, if you type in the correct command, you can get into the car. Once you're inside the car, what do you do? Get out, go into the phone booth, call your friend to find out how to start the car? You'll have to discover what to do on your own.

Moraff's Revenge
by MoraffWare
Download Disk# 1641
Science fiction author Steve Moraff brings one of the most complex and beguiling dungeons and dragons games to shareware. Though called a beginner's game, few will find it easy. With 70 levels, batallions of monsters and no clear cut rules, this adventure resembles life itself.
This game has no single, simple object. Not even survival qualifies.
Generally, the game involves equipping, fighting, exploring and healing.
New characters begin their odyssey with only a knife and no money. The characters must kill monsters, some of which are virtually indomitable, and find treasures to get money, weapons and cures. Even character improvement is a key to scoring in this game. The most exciting goal is to find the fountain of youth on the 70th level. A more typical expedition would call on a character to enter the dungeon and kill monsters and discover treasure. Then, the character returns and cashes in treasure at the bank, and sleeps at an inn to gain "spell points" and gain greater power. The character can then buy weapons with his extra money and reenter the dungeon to tackle even more powerful monsters.
Though this program uses simple ASCII graphics to represent the characters and rooms, the game's mapping system still adds to the excitement. The right side of the screen offers a three dimensional view of all four directions. Monsters become visible far down the corridor.

You have just inherited a small domain somewhere in the boundless tracks of central Asia. Each year you meet with your royal council and decide how many acres of land to cultivate, how much grain to reserve in the storehouses, and how much additional grain to buy or sell. Gold acquired from trade is needed to maintain your loyal troops, which can be used to defend your territory or to conquer new territory to accomodate an expanding populace. You can also send scouting parties to get information about the strength and potential threat of your surrounding neighbors. Above all, the main objective during your term is to build an irrigation system to guard against drought and make your crops more productive.
When making your decisions you must be careful not to tax your citizens too highly, since they might starve or grow rebellious. On the other hand, if you tax them too low, there may not be enough grain for planting crops next year. At the end of the year, your officers report to you a summary of the year's important events, such as harvest yields, balance in the treasury, population count, effects of drought or plague, territory captured, and information on the developments of any invasions from surrounding territories. The kingdom is in your hands. If you do well you will be honored, but if you do poorly you can always abdicate.

Skyland's Star is a science fictional text adventure game which draws its inspiration from classic prose adventures. The storyline is a follows: the Earth is in desperate peril. The rapid growth in population and need for energy has all but depleted the world's fossil fuels. Science has been unable to replace them with a safe and reliable alternative. The player, a member of a small group of scientists, is recruited to travel into the future to witness how the problem was solved - in the past. The bulk of the game takes place here, in a major metropolis of the future. The player must discover how the future solved the problem and retrieve the necessary information and items for the present to survive the crisis, so that the future he witnessed can exist.
The game is intended for anyone who wants a challenging, intelligent diversion from reality. The program would be particularly welcomed by people who long for classic text adventures in these days of graphic intensive programs.
There are several aspects of this game which make it superior to even some of the best known professional text adventures. First, Skyland's Star has an excellent vocabulary, recognizing nearly 1500 words, and a parser which can comprehend commands ranging from a single letter to complex English sentences. It contains a save and restore feature which can save up to 26 games to a single directory. Another feature of the game is its sheer size. There are nearly 150 separate locations for the player to explore, including the City of Skyland itself, the Moon, a lake, an underground sewer system, and the three story government complex. The game was the Grand Prize winner at the 1989 Rockwell International/LAUSD Computer Science Competition.

Your mission is to keep all of the opposing ships from reaching the open waters of the Mediterranean. Your submarine has complete radar and sonar systems, short and long range torpedoes, defensive systems, mining systems, and extensive navigational capabilities. He also finds many items that can help in his mission: keys, lanterns, corkscrews, boots, and cans of Blastola Cola.

Commander Keen

Commander Keen pushes graphics to the limit. It's truly a ``commercial quality'' game that Nintendo and arcade fans will appreciate. It features ultra high-speed EGA graphics and superb sound effects. The animation and scrolling is updated at 60 frames per second (motion picture quality cartoons are filmed at only 24 frames per second).
The epic story of Commander Keen is in the style of the memorable matinee serials of Flash Gordon. You play the role of Billy Blaze, an eight year-old child genius who builds an interstellar ship when not working at home on his college fast-track degree. Among other household objects, Billy uses his Nintendo joystick for flight control and his mom's vacuum cleaner (heavily modified) for his ship's ion propulsion system (with pile height adjustment).
At the first hint of galactic trouble, Billy dons his brother's football helmet and becomes ``Commander Keen'' -- defender of Earth!
Ever on the side of justice, fairness, and high calorie junk food, Keen dispenses justice with an iron hand.

As Mylo Steamwitz, you'll enter cave after cave of adventure, gathering the treasures of each, while evading hazards galore! CRYSTAL CAVES features the smoothest animated graphics ever seen in an Apogee game.
The game begins with Mylo rocketing to the Altairian star system on a simple treasure hunt. But what happens is far more dangerous than even Mylo bargained for. Variety is evident in CRYSTAL CAVES. On some levels Mylo will even walk up-side-down! Other levels have such low gravity that the recoil from Mylo's laser pistol can knock him into other dangers! Lemmings are little rodents known for their collective consciousness.
They travel in dense groups and seem to move as a mass rather than as individuals. They're infamous for following each other off cliffs or into the sea to their death. In the video world, Lemmings have much the same personality. They aren't predispositioned to do anything but follow. They will do whatever they're told, and follow that until you tell them to do something else. Since you're in charge of where the lemmings go and what they do, it's up to you to save the lemmings from falling to their death.
As "hoards of roaming rodents" are released from a chute at the top of the screen, you use the mouse to tag them for a certain job as they scurry around the screen. You can make them walkers, climbers, diggers, or builders. You can even have one lemming stop the lemmings behind him from continuing in that direction. The way you control each lemming determines if the other lemmings will continue to move toward safety.
LEMMINGS: 1991 XMAS EDITION has been released for all the world to try.
It's a full working version of a Lemmings-style commercial game. The ultimate brain game? You be the judge. This Tetris-like game is very easy to operate and play while at the same time exercising your brain to visualize and measure objects and space. If you know Tetris, QUATRIS II shouldn't be any problem for you.
This game has 3 complete levels and 40 extended shapes to play with.
QUATRIS II supports 16 color, high resolution EGA/VGA graphics mode using 3D graphical-user-interface, and now works under QEMM. It will automatically save your game, allow you to redefine your keys, track both your score and the number of lines left, and is provided with a grid to help you more accurately drop the blocks. A unique feature can improve your score by enlisting bombs that will either wipe out a line, wipe out particular pieces, or wipe out everything on the screen, provided you have enough "energy." Challenge of the playing field changes from level to level with the fluxuation of the two-dimensional "well" where the blocks fall.
The shareware version of QUATRIS II has only 3 levels of play, yet many people find (and we tend to agree) that even in this form it provides you with more fun and addiction than Tetris or any of the other tetris-like programs.

The general idea of the game is this: you have to run around through various mazes (levels) picking up treasure (rings and crowns) while avoiding the Snarfs. Each time you're tagged the count is decremented. If you get tagged when the count is 0, the game is over. You can get "healed" at a first-aid station (your tag count is pumped back up to 50). First-aid is only available every two to four mazes. The color of the top and bottom bars on the display change with each tag. Snarf 2.02 allows the user to create new levels for the game.

Awarded the Sept-Oct '92 Shareware Magazine Editor's Choice Award, WOLFENSTEIN 3-D is a game you'll want to get if you enjoy action with superb graphics.
The setting is World War II, and you're a commando who has been captured. You're held prisoner in the Nazi stronghold, Castle Wolfenstein. You're a valuable prisoner, however, so you aren't kept on the main floor, but eight levels down! To escape, you'll need to get past lots of obstacles. (The number of obstacles you must conquer depends on which of the four difficulty levels you choose.) The levels are appropriately named Can I Play, Daddy? (very easy), Please Don't Hurt Me (moderate), Bring 'Em On (difficult), and I Am Death Incarnate (very difficult).
You begin your escape attempt, with your health at 100 percent, and armed with a knife and a pistol containing eight shots (you will, however, be able to get more weapons from guards or in certain rooms.) Once you leave your cell, you have to get past the guards, navigating your way through maze-like corridors to find the elevator to the next level up. The guards are armed with pistols, machine guns, and guard dogs, and can rapidly deplete your health if you aren't fast.
What separates this arcade game from others are its amazing features.
WOLFENSTEIN 3-D is unpredictable. The actions of the game characters change as you change what you do, and sometimes they'll change even if you do every single thing the same. It's also very realistic. Your eyes are the eyes of the commando and you are in a three-dimensional setting that is so realistic you'll get dizzy if you turn around too quickly.
AdLib and SoundBlaster sound cards are supported, in addition to the PC speaker, making the sound effects amazing.
All these features make WOLFENSTEIN 3-D exciting and full of surprises; its built-in intelligence addictive and challenging. This shareware game will be sure to wake up the retail world and keep shareware gamers up late into the night!

SOLISQUARE is a simple game based on solitaire. The object of the game is to remove all the different colored squares by picking up pairs of squares that are next to each other horizontally, vertically, or diagonally.
In the standard game, the layout uses 15 colors laid out in 6 columns and 5 rows. The deck holds eight squares of each color, for a perfect score of 120 if you are able to remove all the squares. If you wish, you can choose different parameters. The program will ask you how many colors, columns, rows, and squares of each color you wish to use. (If you would like to play the game exactly like the original card game it was based on, choose 13 colors, 5 columns, 4 rows, and 4 of each color).
Note that if you choose 0 of each color, the game will give an unlimited number of squares.

SOLITILE is a game of solitaire played with "tiles". Derived from similar games, such as "Shanghai", "Gunshy", and "Mahjongg" which are played with Mah-Jong tiles, SOLITILE plays the same game, but adds new starting layouts and the ability for the player to create new layouts and/or modify the layouts provided. It has built-in, "westernized" pictures on the faces of the tiles, but can also use alternate tile-sets. The program includes a tile editor so the user may alter existing tile pictures or create entirely new sets. SOLITILE can also read in and use tile sets created for use with Nels Anderson's Mahjongg game (of which there are hundreds available).

Danger danger danger -- imprudent use of STAINED GLASS may get you fired! Just ask the programmer's sister-in-law, who brought work to a standstill at a large New York investment banking firm after loading STAINED GLASS onto the company network server....
Simple to learn, yet devilishly difficult to master, STAINED GLASS is almost pathologically addictive. Remember the game you played with golf tees and a block of wood, jumping one tee over another into an empty hole and removing the tee you jumped, until there was only one tee left?
STAINED GLASS takes that basic idea, substitutes colored panes of glass for golf tees, and adds primary and secondary colors and a very simple set of rules that you learned in kindergarten -- blue plus yellow makes green, orange minus red leaves yellow, and so on.
STAINED GLASS has all of the bells and whistles you would expect with a top-of-the-line strategy game, including such options as load, save, undo, hint, restart, and a panic button, just in case the boss walks by!
Furthermore, the author is trying a very interesting experiment with the shareware registration system. He calls it "commissionware" -- if you send him your $25 registration fee, he will send you your own serialized copy of STAINED GLASS. If you make copies and give them to your friends and one of them sends in his or her registration fee, you will receive a $5.00 commission.

Bring your own deck and cut! Here's a lively collection of card games for your betting pleasure!
Going to Vegas or Atlantic City? Get in shape with Holdem Poker, the most popular card game in big casinos and card rooms across America.
You play eight other players and start betting when you get two cards.
The dealer displays three more cards which anyone can use. After betting, two more cards are displayed. This is a tough game and only the smart and the rugged survive.
Accordion Solitaire brings the battle-weary a game for rainy Sunday afternoons when time is as unimportant as winning. A gentle game with lots of instant gratification, it deals cards one by one. If cards next to each other are of identical rank or suit, pile one atop the other.
Likewise for those spaced three cards apart. As the surf beats upon the shoals of Nirvana, you'll find your row of cards shrinking. Using serene strategies, you might in this, or some future lifetime, get down to a single stack and win.
Red Dog will delight any betting man or woman. A computerized version of the old Acey Duecy game, it pits you against the house.
Professionally drawn and swiftly moving, it deals a spread of two cards.
Your goal: draw a card numerically between the spread of the two dealt cards. You view a payoff table which tells you how much you will win if your draw is successful. You can raise your bet once.
Poker whizzes hone their betting skills on Poker Solitaire. On the surface, it looks like a simple game. Responding to cards dealt one at a time, you fill out a five card by five card square, trying to make the most points possible. Runs, flushes and other poker hands are scored vertically and horizontally. You compute your best odds in two directions at once as you decide where to place the next card. The game moves fast; vibrant colors and designs enhance the screen.

Finally, someone put the fun back into computing! OPENDOOR introduces a new category of software -- the anti-program! It's for all those times when you need a break from the other "stuff" you do on your computer. The Seattle Times called this program "the Saturday Night Live" of DOS software.
OPENDOOR simulates the look of a real operating system, with single touch commands, using the Function Keys and other "live" keys. On screen help is provided at the touch of a key - any time.
Wordprocessing, spreadsheet, graph, and multitask screens can be displayed when you don't feel much like working, but want it to look like your computer is.
The built-in programs of OPENDOOR are all geared toward the fun side of computing:
Crystal Ball - a life reading index that can even be rigged.
What To Eat Decision Maker - answers for "Where do YOU want to eat?".
Jerk-O-Meter - rates a person's "irritation" factor.
Lie Detector - provides ratings from "Outright Lie" to the "Truth".
Ringing Phone - a perfect interruption to get rid of someone.
Stars! - every imaginable character blasted all over your screen.
Computer Lock - it even looks like it works.
Death Simulator - a blank screen with an eternal message.
OPENDOOR is not for doing any serious work, because its main purpose is to provide plain and simple fun -- all without doing harm to anyone's computer (or ego). You can use OPENDOOR to make it look like you are working very hard, for things like deciding where to eat, or even to play jokes on others.

Universe Analyzer
by Mark Mahin RUN
Download Disk# 1772
What is the probability of an undesigned universe meeting all the requirements for a biologically favorable universe? UNIVERSE ANALYZER is designed to provide a limited answer to this important question. By "a biologically favorable universe," this program means a universe with plenty of heavy elements such as carbon, and a large number of bright long-lived stars like the sun.
After prompting the user for inputs, the program generates a list of seven requirements for a biologically favorable universe. Using a random number generator, the program then generates many "universe models" with various characteristics as a result of chance. The program does NOT involve any religious or philosophical presuppositions.
However, the program does tend to reach the philosophically interesting conclusion that there is less than one chance in 1,000,000,000,000,000 that an undesigned universe would be biologically favorable.

4th Quarter, two minutes left to play. Ball is on the 20 yard line, 4th down and 1 yard to go -- as coach of your favorite football team it is up to you to decide the next strategy in Ed Hagen's PRO SET FOOTBALL.
Choose from your favorite teams as you decide the offensive and defensive choices for your players. Pass, run, kick, score touchdowns and kick field goals. Get penalized for "off sides" or intercept a pass and run it back for 6 points!
Although PRO SET FOOTBALL is not a graphic game, its depth is made up in the format in which you play. First, either choose from pro or college teams. Second, play against the computer or a friend. Select from a menu of options for either the defensive or offensive plays -- the computer then "plays" the results of your choices. Game time is held in 15 minute quarters and stats of all your players (real players from the 1987 pro teams and 1988 college teams) are displayed at half time and the end. Sound effects are minimal but do add a nice quality to the game.
Truly enjoyable, simple to use, PRO SET FOOTBALL will never be the same game twice. Enjoy playing the pros all year round -- a nice addition to your computerized sports library.

PC-PENTE is a game with its roots in the ancient game of Go. The playing field is a grid and the object is simple: either get five of your pieces in a row or capture 10 of your opponent's pieces by surrounding them with your pieces. It is assumed that you already know how to play the game, but in case you don't, Rules.com has a concise overview of the basic strategy of Pente.
PYRAMIDS is a strategy game based on an ancient Egyptian theme. You and the Pharaoh Cheops are vying to discover the other's pyramid before your own is found. The playing pieces include sphinxes, lions, bulls, rams, wolves, hawks, camels, cats, antelopes and a cobra -- each with special powers. You can see your opponent's pieces and your opponent can see yours, but you do not know the rank and power of each until one of you attacks the other.
YAHTZEE is the classic dice game we've all played in which you try to collect pairs, three-of-a-kinds, full houses, and the like for points by rolling six dice. From each roll, you can pick up from one to six of the dice and re-roll them, to try to better the score you receive for the roll. Once a requirement has been filled, you cannot use that roll again. The winner completes his list with the highest total score.

Empire

Empire is a different kind of role-playing game. In it, up to four people take on roles of dictators and compete to conquer the world. Each player is given an equal number of armies, and takes turns moving them from country to country, attacking, and being attacked. An interesting twist of this game is that each dictator is assigned a political idealogy and, as you conquer countries, the occupants may be friendly or unfriendly. Friendly countries take less troops to occupy, and unfriendly countries can rebel and throw your troops out.
Use the program's world and continent maps to determine your troop deployments. The maps are nicely designed, and you can use a mouse to move around. When you want to move or attack, all possible choices are displayed on pop-up menus for easy selection. When you do attack, a window opens up and you see small representations of men and tanks blowing each other up. The outcome of any battle is random, with the dictator having the most armies in the battle favored.
Game design and graphics are well done. This is a solid version of the traditional military-strategy game. You can play one-on-one with the computer, but that can be a little boring. The real fun is when you have more than two human adversaries, and that's when the strategy gets interesting and challenging.
Military-strategy games have been around a long time, and Empire has put a pretty face on this traditional game. It doesn't have the fast action of an arcade game, but if you're a fan of military-strategy games, Empire deserves a closer look.

Download Disk# 2922
MAH JONGG -V-G-A- is a high-tech simulation of the ancient Chinese game of Mah Jongg. Some historians date Mah Jongg back to the time of Confucius -- over 25 centuries ago!
It's believed that sailors and fishermen played Mah Jongg as a diversion from the monotony of their long voyages. The game was originally played with cards, but eventually bone and bamboo tiles were substituted since these were less likely to be blown off the deck. The object of the game was to match tiles, but the tiles had to first meet certain criteria.
MAH JONGG -V-G-A- recreates the beauty and addictive pleasure of Mah Jongg, but uses modern data processing techniques and high-resolution graphics instead of bamboo tiles.
In an attempt to make this game as elegant and as enjoyable as possible, the author has used some of the most advanced features of today's state-of-the-art MS-DOS computers. Not all PC computers are able to run MAH JONGG -V-G-A-. But if yours can, prepare yourself for the meeting of the past and future!

MAHJONG is a Chinese gambling game which arrived in the West in the early 1920's. The origin of the game is unclear but its development has touched on astrology, chess, gambling and, oddest of all, the Earth's magnetic field.
It is a fast moving, dynamic game that becomes addictive with its excitement and intrigue. The basic premise is a card game with 136 cards (or "tiles" as they are called in MAHJONG) requiring both skill and luck. Four players receive 13 tiles each and then pick up and discard tiles as they try to obtain four complete sets and a single pair of tiles.
The game is interesting because of the many combinations possible and the skill required to increase your score. To add further excitement, the fast pace provides little chance for contemplation -- thus developing an "instinct" rarely seen in other games. Three levels of play are provided: beginner, advanced and professional. An entertaining game for the whole family.

Nine Men's Morris
by Travis Bailey RUN
Download Disk# 2185
Try a game that has its origins in ancient history! Layouts have been found in manuscripts and tombs, including one cut into roofing slabs in Germany (Muhle). Similar to the game Noughts and Crosses or Tic Tac Toe, it was most popular in the 14th Century, acquiring the name Morris in England. This was possibly due to the board resembling patterns made by Morris dancers.
Play takes place on the 24 intersecting points on the board. Each player attempts to arrange three of his pieces in a line on the board.
Such a line is called a Mill. This entitles a player to remove any one of his opponent's pieces from the board, including any that are themselves forming a mill. A player who can reduce his opponent to two pieces or block him from making a legitimate move wins the game.
This strategic two-player game (the computer won't be an opponent) will make for a challenging and fun evening!

Othello devotees will find the computer is generally a mite smarter than expected when it comes to outflanking their squares. The game works well on both color and monochrome displays.
